Stage 10c
West Emilia Itinerary: Campogalliano-Sassuolo
After Campogalliano that greets us with its lakes, we come across the Corte Ospitale complex, in the Municipality of Rubiera, whose name recalls the hospitality function it performed for centuries. Today it is home to cultural institutions and associations. We return to skirt the River Secchia, which we will follow to Sassuolo, on dirt banks, passing by some small towns including Colombarone and Magreta. From here the connection branches off and, crossing the center of Formigine (a city under the patronage of our San Bartolomeo), arrives at Colombaro and the churchyard of the thousand-year-old Pieve dedicated to San Giacomo, near which there was a large hospital for pilgrims. Continuing we come across the Tiepido torrent and then the other arm of the Via Romea Imperiale, which descends from Modena. If we have instead continued along the River Secchia, we come to Sassuolo, and the magnificent Palazzo Estense. Even further on we come across the historic Terme di Salvarola, also frequented by Matilde of Canossa.
