Stage 15
Pavullo (San Bartolomeo)-Olina Bridge-Montecreto
From Pavullo almost to Pistoia the itinerary coincides for a stretch with the “Cammino of San Bartolomeo” (which begins in Fiumalbo) first, and then with the “Via Francesca of the Sambuca”. Given the wealth of itineraries, we have selected two, which the pilgrim can choose, according to his or her preferences.
In the classic itinerary the Stage 15 goes from Pavullo to Montecreto passing through Acquaria; in its variant the Stage 15a goes from Pavullo to Lama Mocogno and Stage 15b from Lama Mocogno to Montecreto, until it rejoins the main itinerary. In both cases it is possible to break up the stage, and this opportunity is far from being discarded because the Apennines here become real mountains, and the differences in altitude are quite challenging.
After leaving Pavullo, you climb the hill where the castle overlooking the Scoltenna valley is located, where the general of the Habsburg imperial army Raimondo Montecuccoli was born. After the castle you come across the thousand-year-old Pieve di Renno and then some very pleasant villages, including Olina where the two indicated variants split up, going up the two sides of the valley and then rejoining at the foot of Montecreto. As mentioned, it is possible to interrupt the stage thanks to the hospitality present on both routes, which however we suggest booking: on the first route (Stage 15) you can stop at Lama Mocogno, on the second (Stage 15a) at Ca’ Gianino.
