Stage 10

Concordia-Sozzigalli

In the province of Modena we will find an important crossroads of Roman roads, that is, the continuation of the Via Claudia Augusta (up to the Tyrrhenian Sea), and the Via Emilia. Before reaching the challenging mountains of the Apennines, we will continue walking on the banks of the Secchia River, between rows of poplars and bell towers in the distance. However, one could say that beyond the Secchia River there is in the air the scent of another “river”, slightly alcoholic: it is the “river” of Lambrusco which is produced here in different types, and exported all over the world as one of the most popular wines.
Unfortunately, the area was the scene of a strong earthquake a few years ago, the signs of which are still clearly visible in the towns that you come across along the way.
