Stage 10c

Itinerary Emilia Ovest – Campogalliano-Sassuolo

After Campogalliano, which welcomes us with its lakes, we encounter the complex of Corte Ospitale, in the municipality of Rubiera, whose name is a reminder of the receptive function it served for centuries. Today it is home to cultural institutions and associations.

We return along the Secchia River, which we will follow to Sassuolo, on dirt roads, grazing some small towns including Colombarone and Magreta. From here you will detach the attachment road that, passing through the center of Formigine (a town under the patronage of our St. Bartholomew), reaches Colombaro and the churchyard of the thousand-year-old parish church dedicated to St. Bartholomew and the thousand-year-old parish church dedicated to St. James, near which stood a large hospice for the pilgrims. Continuing on this road, you reach the Tiepido stream and then the other arm of the route, which descends from Modena. If, on the other hand, one were to continue along the Secchia, they would reach Sassuolo and the magnificent Palazzo Estense. Still further on we encounter the historic Salvarola Baths, also frequented by Matilda of Canossa.
